Is there a runlevel for starting X from init? I am trying to start xdm for graphical login as default.

Thanks

because CRUX (PPC) by default doesn't define runlevel 3 you have to modify your /etc/inittab or (best method) add xdm's service to your /etc/rc.conf .

Here more infos (old but not obsolete):
http://crux.nu/Wiki/GnomePorts
http://crux.nu/Wiki/KDE4

hope this helps.

I'd suggest to use slim (you'll find it in x86/opt).
It was developed and maintained by CRUX developers for long time thus for historical reasons it's the best CRUX (PPC) choice for a desktop-independent graphical login manager.

The best and more elegant way to use, it's to add slim to your own /etc/rc.conf services

Ok, thanks for the replies. I am currently running e17 with very good results--less lag than fluxbox. I will look for the entrance login manager and compare it with xdm and slim, then setup my runlevel scripts from blfs or something.
Thanks again.
