Hi

I've got my cruxppc installed and booting cleanly, and now I would like to begin adding a user account and software, most notably a desktop like Gnome or Enlightenment 17.

When I burned the installation .iso I also burned crux-ppc-2.5-source.iso. But I can't find any documentation on how to handle it. Quickly quoting the README: "This ISO image contains sources for the packages, kernel and utilities
supplied with/used in CRUX PPC 2.5" But no installation instructions.

Did I overlook something some where?

Cheers

As install ISO packages do not contain “junk files” but every package contains compiled binaries from software written by a lot of different people and each software comes with its own license chosen by its author... then we provide sources too.
Again parts written by CRUX and CRUX PPC Team are to intend as free software... then we provide sources too.

btw, CRUX and CRUX PPC are source based distro and someone could be happy to have them... then we provide sources too.

If you want to build your own CRUX PPC iso (e.g. with a different bootkernel) you can start from this howto.

Hi acrux

Thanks for the link! But, perhaps, I am walking up the wrong path.

What I am really looking for, and this could be because of my inexperience with Crux, is a path to the distribution's tree with which to synchronize my system, and from which I could download and install packages.

I am trying to edit my pkgmk.conf file in accordence with the installation handbook:

What is the correct path to a mirror and the crux source tree?
It is mentioned that the link is an example, so I am also wondering about the brackets instead of quotes in the syntax.
Would the link require quotes, as all the other parameters in the file?

that's only if you have multiple CRUX machines, setting a master you are able to save bandwith sharing needed sources across your lan.
