I am attempting to install CRUX in a virtual LPAR on an IBM p5-570, and am trying to follow the instructions in this very useful document:
thanks but it isn't yet released as official documentation (on this site) because it doesn't cover important scenarios like netboot or chroot (from a pre-existent GNU/Linux distribution) installation process.
The LPAR has a locally attached DVD drive and I am abler to use the following command to do what appears to be a successful boot:
boot: pseries root=/dev/hde console-ttyS0,19200
when used on LPAR/DLPAR capable machines it should be console=hvc0,9600
on non-virtualized systems.
At the end of the boot process I get these messages and all looks well:
FS: Mounted root (iso9660 filesystem) readonly on device 33:0.
Freeing unused kernel memory: 328k freed
INIT: Version 2.86 running
The system is coming up. Please wait.
INIT: Entering runlevel: 2
The problem I have though is I never get a login prompt so that I can continue the process... Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do differently? I suspect this situation is related to the terminal window to the LPAR being provided through the HMC.
i apologize for that... there is an issue in our serial console management script therefore there is no way to use /dev/hvc*
as needed on POWER5 and newer systems. It'll be fixed with the upcoming CRUX PPC 2.7 (with other issues related to netboot through yaboot).
Actually the only way to install a CRUX PPC on these systems is to perform direct installation (videocard/keyboard) or a chroot installation from a pre-existent distro or a network installation with a slightly modified yaboot and a fixed serial_setup script.
