PCI domain support is broken in xorg-1.4.0, his wrapper doesn't find videocards on PCI bus.

ok, that's fixed.
direct rendering works fine too.

If a CRUX PPC 2.4pre user, please, upgrade with this (PCI bus videocard fix+bumped version):
http://www.ewb.it/~acrux/xorg-server%23 ... pkg.tar.gz
http://www.ewb.it/~acrux/xorg-server%23 ... tar.gz.md5

if your machine is not affected (AGP bus videcard), you can bump it:
http://www.ewb.it/~acrux/xorg-server%23 ... pkg.tar.gz
http://www.ewb.it/~acrux/xorg-server%23 ... tar.gz.md5

Cjg, has reported that ACube Systems Sam440ep doesn't work with xorg-server-1.4.x (with or without patch workaround).

mmh... ok.

here there are old ati drivers fresh compiled against xorg-server-1.4.x:

... they can live together ...

It's possible (at least after my patching work) to install together the new and the old version of the ati driver, I named the old driver (the 6.3.3 ones) that works with the sam440ep radeonlegacy and atilegacy, so after pkgadding the driver the user have to replace "radeon" (or "ati") with "radeonlegacy" (or "atilegacy") in his xorg.conf.

The port http://ewb.it/~cjg/xorg-xf86-video-ati-legacy.tar.gz

and the package http://ewb.it/~cjg/xorg-xf86-video-ati-legacy#6.3.3-1.pkg.tar.gz

and a screenshot

there is no legacy gpu or drivers but only 6.7.x aren't mature yet.

anyway,
i agree with you but i'd like to choose KISS philosophy then we can use 6.6.3 (stable 'n stopped at 03.10.2006) 'cause they work on all kind of machines (aligned with CRUX x86 too).
After that everyone is free to test 'n use devel tree drivers (6.7.x)
